March Support Group Topic: Understanding Regulation and Co-Regulation
The term co-regulation is often used in parenting circles—especially in adoption spaces—but before we can help our children regulate their emotions, it’s important to understand what regulation and co-regulation actually are.
If we are not aware of what is happening inside our own bodies—our stress, triggers, and overwhelm—it becomes much harder to come alongside our children and help bring calm to them. Co-regulation begins with our own regulation.
This month, we will talk about what regulation really means and why it can sometimes feel so difficult.
If you are interested in learning more, we recommend this short video by Sukie Baxter, who explains how we learn regulation and co-regulation, and how stress and worry can live in our bodies. Her work explores how the nervous system shapes our responses and why understanding it can help us respond more effectively to our children.
If you’d like to explore this in a practical, supportive space, join us for our monthly post-adoption support group on Thursday, March 12th at 5 pm PST / 8 pm EST.
The Zoom link is the same each month. If you need the link, please email [email protected].
